7 Sins
The project connects Barcelona’s seven historical monuments with the seven deadly sins, using dance to transform their negative connotations into virtues. By blending art, culture, and human nature, we showcase a journey toward spiritual growth and harmony, proving that creativity can unite and inspire.
Barcelona’s Landmarks Through Dance
Filming took place in significant historical locations in Barcelona. Each area is carefully chosen to emphasize the historical and cultural significance of the city and to symbolize various aspects of human life and behavior:
- Pride – The Grec Theater
The Grec Theater symbolizes human pride in artistic achievements and cultural heritage. Its grandeur reflects the pride of creation and performance, but also serves as a reminder of the danger of excessive self-admiration.
- Sloth – Gardens near the Montjuïc Cemetery
These serene gardens, close to a place of eternal rest, represent the stillness and inaction associated with sloth. The tranquil atmosphere invites reflection on the balance between rest and apathy.
- Envy – The Museum of Natural Sciences
The Museum of Natural Sciences showcases the beauty and diversity of life, yet it also sparks envy through comparisons—between species, survival strategies, and human achievements in understanding nature.
- Greed – The Canalets Drinking Water Fountain
This fountain, a symbol of shared resources, is linked to greed as it highlights the contrast between abundance and the human tendency to take more than needed, even from communal gifts.
- Lust – Jardines De Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer
The lush, sensual beauty of these gardens evokes desire and attraction. Their blooming flowers and flowing landscapes symbolize the allure of physical and emotional indulgence, reflecting lust's captivating pull.
- Gluttony – Parque del Laberint d'Horta
The labyrinth represents excess, as its intricate design mirrors the overindulgence of gluttony—losing oneself in the pursuit of more, whether it’s food, pleasure, or experiences.
- Anger – Beach of Barcelona
The beach, while a place of peace for many, is also where waves crash with relentless force, symbolizing wrath. It reflects nature’s raw and destructive energy, much like anger’s overwhelming power.
Making Art Accessible for Everyone
At El MAPA, we believe art and culture should be accessible to all. By recording dance performances at Barcelona’s landmarks, we bring the beauty of the city’s heritage to people with reduced mobility and those who cannot visit these locations in person
